Councilor Lee Gwisoon: "Gwangju Tourism Corporation Full of Illegalities and Violations"

Business Operation and Management, Organization-Wide 'Comprehensive Crisis'

Councilor Lee Gwisoon: "Gwangju Tourism Corporation Full of Illegalities and Violations" Lee Gwi-soon, Gwangju City Council Member

Claims have been raised that the operation and management of the Gwangju Tourism Corporation are riddled with illegal and violating issues, describing it as a 'total crisis.'

On the 4th, Lee Gwi-soon, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party, Gwangsan-gu 4), strongly criticized during the Gwangju City administrative audit, stating, "The operation and management of the Gwangju Tourism Corporation's projects and the organization as a whole are in a total crisis."

Councilor Lee pointed out, "The operation and management of the City Tour Bus and Gwangju Tour Bus (DRT) are not being conducted at all," adding, "Reservations are being accepted through a site without secure connections, posing a high risk of personal information exposure for users. Additionally, the Gwangju Tour Bus stop installed at the National Asia Culture Center is located in a 'fire facility no parking or stopping zone,' meaning all vehicles that pick up or drop off passengers there are subject to fines." The City Tour Bus and Gwangju Tour Bus serve as means to travel to major tourist attractions, allowing easy and comfortable access between Gwangju Songjeong Station, Gwangju Airport, U-Square Terminal, and key tourist spots.

Councilor Lee also stated, "Among the 21 cleaning staff positions within the corporation, 12 are vacant, the highest number, and the fact that these positions are being operated through short-term contracts of 2 to 3 months is a violation of collective agreements and management operation regulations." He added, "Even though the previous integrated research service concluded that at least 17 or more staff are needed, low-quality jobs continue to persist. Vacancies should be addressed not through short-term contracts but by establishing hiring plans for stable operation."
