Yujin Corporation announced on the 4th that it has developed winter concrete to solve construction issues at sites during the winter season.

The winter concrete, developed through collaboration between Yujin Corporation and its affiliate Dongyang, is characterized by not requiring additional heat curing for concrete curing even in cold environments as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius.

A representative from Yujin Corporation explained, “In winter, low temperatures delay the hardening of concrete or cause internal moisture to freeze, halting the curing process, which makes quality maintenance difficult. These problems become more severe at subzero temperatures, potentially causing delays in construction schedules and negatively affecting the strength and quality of structures.” Due to this, there is increasing demand at construction sites for concrete that can ensure stable strength and rapid construction even during winter.

The winter concrete accelerates the hydration reaction of cement by using blast furnace cement and special chemical admixtures. It can achieve a compressive strength of over 5 MPa around 40 hours after pouring. This shortens the formwork removal time compared to existing products. If concrete pouring is completed in the late afternoon, formwork removal is possible on the morning of the third day after one full day of curing.

Improvements have also been made in workability. In addition to the standard slump specifications, a medium-flow concrete with excellent pumpability and compactability has been developed, allowing the concrete to fill even the corners of formwork with minimal compaction, speeding up construction. Even in winter, this minimizes the use of manpower and equipment, enabling efficient work.

A representative from Yujin Corporation’s Technology Research Institute stated, “We expect that the development of this winter concrete will greatly contribute to maximizing efficiency and quality at construction sites. We plan to continuously provide various solutions for stable construction throughout all four seasons.”
