Shin Jeong-hoon, Leads the Proposal for the "Village Enterprise Promotion Support Act" Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon

Shin Jeong-hoon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Naju·Hwasun, Jeonnam, and Chair of the Public Administration and Security Committee), announced on the 4th that he has taken the lead in proposing the "Village Enterprise Promotion Support Act" to systematically support village enterprises and establish a stable growth foundation.

Village enterprises, which began in 2011 as part of the self-reliant local community project, are currently designated and operating in 1,800 locations across 17 cities and provinces nationwide as of the end of last year, achieving employment of 12,265 people and sales of 309 billion KRW.

In particular, village enterprises utilize local (eup, myeon, dong) resources to create income and jobs as a "local-centered circular economic model," positively impacting community revitalization and serving as an alternative solution to the problem of local extinction. However, despite these positive functions, there is no legal basis for village enterprises, limiting their growth and development.

The "Village Enterprise Promotion Support Act," led by Representative Shin and co-sponsored by Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung and 24 other lawmakers, aims to promote local economic revitalization, create local jobs, and activate local communities by systematically supporting village enterprises and establishing a stable growth foundation.

Representative Shin stated, "The 22nd National Assembly must enact the Village Enterprise Basic Act to assess its status and social role and explore revitalization measures. Once the law is implemented, the role of village enterprises will expand further, including local economic revitalization, educational innovation for nurturing local talent, strengthening the autonomy capabilities of local governments, promoting cooperation among local governments, and establishing cooperative relationships between central and local governments."

Meanwhile, on the morning of the 5th at 10 a.m., a "National Assembly Forum" for the enactment of the Village Enterprise Basic Act will be held in Conference Room 9 of the National Assembly Members' Office Building. Co-hosted by Park Jeong, Chair of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, and Representative Han Byung-do, and supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the forum will begin with a keynote presentation by Professor Noh Seung-yong of Seoul Women’s University, followed by a discussion chaired by Yoo Seong-jin, President of the Jeonnam Village Enterprise Association.
