On the 4th, SOS Lab announced that CEO Jeong Ji-seong received the Ministerial Commendation from the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) at the 'Global ICT Standards Conference 2024.' This commendation was awarded in recognition of CEO Jeong's contribution to introducing fixed LiDAR technology in the new industry sectors of mobility and infrastructure, as well as securing intellectual property rights.
CEO Jeong, an engineering graduate who researched LiDAR technology at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), founded SOS Lab in 2016 with four Ph.D. engineers who had conducted research together during their studies. SOS Lab attracted industry attention by successfully listing through a technology special listing within eight years of its establishment, thanks to its differentiated technological capabilities.
SOS Lab has been researching and developing various products such as 2D and 3D LiDAR and data solutions, achieving a total of 94 registered patents (94 domestic and international registrations, 166 cumulative applications). Notably, CEO Jeong holds 48 patents, accounting for more than 50% of the company's total patents. MSIT highly evaluated CEO Jeong for maintaining competitive advantage and establishing a patent management culture for technological advancement.
To further strengthen its technological competitiveness, SOS Lab established the Future Technology Office, a dedicated patent management department, and operates an invention compensation system to motivate R&D personnel. The company explained that it adopts patent-based research and development (IP-R&D) as a company-wide integrated strategy and focuses on securing competitiveness through patent creation and development.
An SOS Lab official stated, "CEO Jeong's recent award is the result of SOS Lab's focus on technology development and patent management to contribute to the advancement of domestic LiDAR technology and lead the company's growth. Going forward, we will continue to contribute to the creation, protection, and utilization of intellectual property based on IP-R&D, enhancing competitiveness in domestic and international markets to leap forward as a global company."
Meanwhile, the Global ICT Standards Conference 2024 is a leading domestic ICT standardization and patent management event jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korean Intellectual Property Office. This conference was held under the theme 'ICT Standards and Intellectual Property: Inclusive Innovation.'
