World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) has finally parted ways with his beloved old car.

Frugal '85 Billion Golf King' Scheffler Bids Farewell to Old Car... "For My Son Born This Year" Scotty Scheffler donated a car that had been driven 300,000 km over 12 years to a charity event. Golfweek website

On the 3rd (local time), Golf Digest and Golfweek in the United States reported that Scheffler recently disposed of his 2012 GMC Yukon SUV by donating it to a charity event. The GMC Yukon SUV that Scheffler drove had been driven for over 190,000 miles (about 300,000 km) over 12 years. Scheffler's father used to drive it. When Scheffler was a junior golf player, his father drove him around the United States in this car. After Scheffler graduated from college, his father handed the car over to him.

Scheffler drove this car while playing on the PGA Tour’s Korn Ferry Tour (the second-tier tour). When Scheffler won the Masters for the first time in 2022, his whole family traveled from Augusta, Georgia to Dallas, Texas in this car. Although Scheffler has been sitting on a pile of money after being named PGA Tour Player of the Year for three consecutive years, he continued to drive this old car that was not a luxury brand and over 10 years old.

Especially when going between his home, golf courses, gym, and favorite restaurants, he unfailingly drove this car. When asked why he continued to drive the old car despite earning enough money to buy any luxury car, he replied, "I don’t know why I should change cars. This car runs well." Scheffler is known for his modest and frugal lifestyle.

Scheffler finally decided to part with the beloved GMC Yukon SUV after his son Bennett was born in May. He judged that the old car was too worn out to carry a newborn baby, and the GMC Yukon SUV lacked safety and convenience features. Also, he now has an obligation to drive cars provided by his sponsors under contract.

Scheffler donated his beloved car to a nonprofit organization for pediatric cancer research. The car was auctioned at a fundraising event and sold for $50,000 (about 68 million KRW). The new owner was Jim Nantz, a famous golf broadcaster. He said, "I’m happy to have the car that Scheffler used in my garage," and added, "He is everyone’s hero."

Scheffler earned over 80 billion KRW this year. He officially won $29,228,357 in prize money. In addition, he earned a $25 million bonus as the FedEx Cup champion. He took home $8 million from the bonus prize money given to the ‘Top 10’ FedEx Cup rankings before the playoffs started. The total prize money he earned this year amounts to $62,228,357 (about 85.2 billion KRW).
