Free Assistance for Small Taxpayers and Local Tax Objections and Appeals
Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, operates the ‘Selected Agent System’ that provides free assistance for filing appeals against local taxes for small taxpayers who find it difficult to appoint tax agents due to economic hardships.
The ‘Selected Agent System’ is a program where agents such as tax accountants, lawyers, and certified public accountants with more than five years of tax experience, appointed by local governments, perform tasks related to local tax appeal filings free of charge, including legal review, consultation, and supplementation of evidence documents.
The support is available only to individual taxpayers excluding corporations, and the eligibility criteria include ▲tax amount imposed of 10 million KRW or less ▲comprehensive income including spouse of 50 million KRW or less ▲owned property worth 500 million KRW or less. Those subject to travel bans or high-amount habitual tax delinquents are not eligible to apply.
To file an appeal with a designated agent, taxpayers can submit an agent designation application form to the Finance Department of Uiryeong-gun Office. Taxpayers will be notified of the selected agent application result within seven days from the submission date.
An official from the county stated, “We expect the implementation of the Selected Agent System to significantly strengthen taxpayers’ rights. We will enhance publicity to encourage taxpayers to actively utilize the Selected Agent System.”
