Dong-gu, Gwangju City announced on the 4th that it has completed the 'Green-filled Greenway Creation Project' to provide citizens with a pleasant walking environment and streetside greenery.

This project was prepared as part of the urban forest creation to secure the comfort and safety of pedestrians by planting various plants such as shrubs in the green spaces along pedestrian roads.

The district invested a total project cost of 200 million KRW to improve the walking environment mainly along the section from Pureungil Park to Doosan We’ve in Gyelim-dong and Gyelim Elementary School. Dead trees were removed, and 4,000 plants of 10 species including Honggasi and Blue Angel, as well as 2,399 plants of 15 species including Teolmeowi, were planted. Additionally, two information boards were installed.

The district focused on connecting the green belt linked to Pureungil Park, known as the lungs of the city center, to reduce fine dust and heat waves and provide resting spaces, thereby offering a pleasant environment for local residents and future generations in the living area. By planting four species of trees including the golden Sarcheol, which embraces all four seasons, and hydrangeas that bloom white flowers in summer, the district expects to create a rich streetscape as well as a comfortable walking space.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “We promoted the Green-filled Greenway project to provide citizens with a pleasant urban environment,” and added, “We will continue to carry out eco-friendly green space creation projects that anyone can share in their daily lives.”
