Sacheon-si Holds Launch Ceremony for Specialized Wildfire Prevention and Suppression Team and Wildfire Watchers

Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 4th that it held a launch ceremony at the city hall auditorium attended by over 150 people, including the specialized wildfire prevention and suppression team, wildfire monitors, and wildfire-related officials from the city and its eup, myeon, and dong districts.

On this day, the specialized wildfire prevention and suppression team and wildfire monitors read aloud a resolution reaffirming their commitment to wildfire prevention and strong wildfire suppression efforts, which was then delivered to Mayor Park Dongsik.

At the Sacheon City Hall auditorium, the specialized wildfire prevention and suppression team, wildfire monitors, and wildfire-related officials from the city and eup, myeon, and dong are holding an inauguration ceremony.

This launch ceremony was organized to strengthen capabilities and expand personnel in preparation for the wildfire caution periods in fall 2024 and spring 2025 (November 1, 2024 ? May 15, 2025).

The specialized wildfire prevention and suppression team and wildfire monitors will play a role in preemptively blocking wildfire occurrences and minimizing damage through initial response in case of fire.

They will patrol mainly in areas with high wildfire risk to remove potential hazards in advance and will also be deployed for rapid initial firefighting efforts when fires occur.

In particular, through regular training and practical experience, they will continuously enhance their response capabilities to ensure swift and accurate action during wildfire incidents.

Meanwhile, along with the launch ceremony, the city will activate a comprehensive wildfire prevention situation room (countermeasure headquarters) at the city’s green parks and in 13 eup, myeon, and dong districts to initiate an emergency duty system for wildfire preparedness.

Additionally, the headquarters will organize the specialized wildfire prevention and suppression team into five groups and deploy wildfire monitors to wildfire-prone areas within the jurisdiction to strengthen the wildfire prevention and response system.

Mayor Park Dongsik urged, “Please make every effort to ensure that not a single wildfire occurs during the wildfire caution period in order to protect our precious forest assets, which are globally recognized for their remarkable reforestation achievements, and pass them on to future generations.”
