"Hyundai Santa Fe Praised by German Media as Better Than Japanese Hybrids"

In a hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) comparison conducted by the German automotive specialist media 'Auto Zeitung,' the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid received the highest score, surpassing major Japanese brand models.

The magazine compared hybrid models of four vehicles: the Santa Fe, Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail, and Honda CR-V. Five categories were evaluated: body and driving convenience, powertrain, dynamic performance, eco-friendliness, and economy.

The Santa Fe Hybrid led in three of the five evaluation categories?body and driving convenience, and dynamic performance?earning a total score of 3005 points. The RAV4 ranked second with 2939 points, followed by the X-Trail (2882 points) and the CR-V (2873 points).

In the body category, which assesses habitability, trunk capacity, load weight, safety features, and quality, the Santa Fe was recognized for its marketability by creating a gap of more than 70 points over the second-place model. Notably, despite being larger and heavier than competing models, which is a disadvantage in dynamic performance, it attracted attention by ranking first with superior braking distance and other factors compared to competitors.

Full hybrid vehicles with large battery and motor capacities are mainly produced by Korean and Japanese automakers. Hybrids made by European automakers tend to have smaller batteries and motors. The German media’s comparison evaluation, in which the Hyundai model ranked first against representative Japanese hybrid vehicles, is explained by the company as a case proving Hyundai’s competitiveness in Europe, where hybrid demand has recently increased.

Elma Zippen, editor of Auto Zeitung, stated, "Hyundai researchers listened to the market’s demand to ‘think bigger,’" adding, "The Santa Fe excelled particularly in spaciousness, extensive safety features, premium ride comfort, and outstanding braking performance, overwhelming the other evaluated models."
