Gongju Bus Terminal to Hanbyeoldong Travel Time Reduced from 55 Minutes to 39 Minutes
On the 4th, Gongju City in Chungnam announced that the Gongju-Sejong Metropolitan Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system project, which is being carried out in cooperation with Sejong City with an investment of 21.837 billion KRW, will break ground this month and begin full operation in 2026.
The Gongju-Sejong Metropolitan BRT project will construct a dedicated road along an approximately 18.5 km section, starting from the city's main bus terminal and passing through Singwan Elementary School, Sinwol Elementary School, Wolsong-dong, Government Sejong Complex, Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital, and Hanbyeol-dong.
The city will install a total of 28 bus stops along the BRT section, including 8 newly established central stops. Additionally, 5 exclusive lanes and smart bus stops will be set up, and a bus depot will be constructed in Geumseong-dong.
The city expects that, once the route opens, the travel time from Gongju Main Bus Terminal to Hanbyeol-dong will be reduced by 16 minutes, from the current 55 minutes to 39 minutes.
Mayor Choi Woncheol said, "This Gongju-Sejong Metropolitan BRT project is the first of its kind to be implemented in Chungnam. We will do our utmost to ensure the smooth progress of the construction, and we hope this will serve as an opportunity for mutual development between Gongju City and Sejong City."
