Ulsan City Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for ‘Pyeongchang Hyundai Public Parking Lot Expansion Project’... Transforming into a Complex Cultural Space

Expanded to 471 Parking Spaces

Facilities for Employment and Startups · Cultural and Artistic Spaces

The public parking lot in front of Pyeongchang Hyundai will be transformed into a complex cultural space with a parking capacity of 471 spaces.

On the 4th, Ulsan City will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Expansion Project of the Public Parking Lot in front of Pyeongchang Hyundai’ at the public parking lot located in Samsan-dong, Nam-gu.

The event will be attended by about 200 people, including Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, Acting Chairperson of the City Council Kim Jong-seop, city council members, and construction officials, and will proceed with a progress report, commemorative speeches, and groundbreaking.

The ‘Expansion Project of the Public Parking Lot in front of Pyeongchang Hyundai’ will be carried out in Samsan-dong, Nam-gu, with a total floor area of 13,370㎡ and five floors.

The first floor above ground will feature youth startup facilities, cultural spaces, and a club (community) plaza, while the second to fifth floors will be developed into a parking lot with 471 spaces.

A total of 26.3 billion KRW (7.8 billion KRW from the national government and 18.5 billion KRW from the city) will be invested, with completion scheduled for June 2026.

In particular, it will address the long-standing needs of citizens using the commercial area around Samsan-dong, as well as local merchants and residents, and will be developed into youth employment and startup facilities, cultural arts, and rest areas.

An official from Ulsan City said, “The expansion of the public parking lot is expected to provide convenience for visitors to nearby stores and become a cultural complex space that can coexist with the surrounding commercial district,” adding, “We ask for the understanding and active cooperation of citizens as inconvenience is expected due to the suspension of the existing public parking lot during the construction period.”

The existing public parking lot in front of Pyeongchang Hyundai was operated as an on-street parking lot with 240 spaces, but located in Ulsan’s largest commercial area, it suffered from severe congestion and illegal parking due to the influx of vehicles waiting to enter.

Accordingly, Ulsan City decided to promote this project to build a multi-level parking lot to alleviate citizen inconvenience caused by the lack of parking spaces and to revitalize the surrounding commercial district.
