The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has prepared a budget of 23.054 trillion KRW for next year.
The Office announced on the 4th that it recently submitted the '2025 Gyeonggi Provincial Education Special Account Revenue and Expenditure Budget' of 23.054 trillion KRW to the Gyeonggi Provincial Council. The budget for next year increased by 996.6 billion KRW compared to this year's main budget (22.0574 trillion KRW).
The main revenue budget includes ▲transfers from the central government of 17.7887 trillion KRW ▲transfers from local governments of 3.7959 trillion KRW ▲other income and net surplus of 443.6 billion KRW ▲fund transfers of 1.0258 trillion KRW, among others.
The main expenditure budget includes ▲strengthening competency-based education with 212.7 billion KRW ▲creating a school culture of autonomy and responsibility with 1.3948 trillion KRW ▲strengthening regional cooperative education with 249.3 billion KRW ▲expanding the public responsibility of education with 2.4924 trillion KRW ▲supporting digital-based teaching and learning with 392.6 billion KRW ▲establishing a learning safety net with 269.8 billion KRW ▲strengthening future education competencies with 119.2 billion KRW ▲supporting safe schools with 2.9285 trillion KRW ▲supporting school-centered educational administration with 14.9947 trillion KRW, among others.
The Office explained that the budget was prepared focusing on supporting digital-based teaching and learning, expanding the public responsibility of education, supporting safe schools, and supporting school-centered educational administration, based on a sound fiscal policy.
Looking at the major projects for next year, first, 272.2 billion KRW was allocated to improve wired and wireless networks in schools to support digital-based teaching and learning following the introduction of AI digital textbooks, and 830.8 billion KRW was allocated for school meal expenses, including full personnel costs, to ensure stable meal support by reducing the financial burden on basic local governments.
Additionally, 50.2 billion KRW was allocated for purchasing and expanding official residences to stabilize housing for low-experience public officials, and 13.8 billion KRW for health checkups and customized welfare support for low-experience public officials, totaling 64.1 billion KRW for tailored support to boost morale and work motivation among low-experience public officials.
Furthermore, to strengthen competency-based education, 6.3 billion KRW was allocated for International Baccalaureate (IB) education, 41.2 billion KRW for curriculum operation and diversification, and 101.9 billion KRW for special education welfare and operations.
In addition, projects to create a school culture of autonomy and responsibility, strengthen regional cooperative education, expand the public responsibility of education, support digital-based teaching and learning, enhance future education competencies, support safe schools, and support school-centered educational administration will also be promoted as key projects.
Ahn Junsang, the budget officer of the Office of Education, stated, "The 2025 budget was prepared with a focus on establishing a sound fiscal policy reflecting financial conditions, concentrating investment on core educational projects for future education, and strengthening the autonomy of school financial management tailored to the educational field."
This budget will be reviewed and approved through the 379th regular session of the Provincial Council, held from the 5th of this month to the 19th of next month.
