Installation of 12 Priority Parking Spaces for National Merit Recipients... Full Efforts to Enhance Convenience
Related Ordinance Enacted in July to Establish Priority Parking Zones... Basis and Standards for Support Established
At Least One Priority Parking Space Installed in Public Offices and Facilities with Parking Capacity of 100 or More Vehicles
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it has installed ‘Priority Parking Spaces for National Merit Recipients’ at 12 public off-street parking lots in the area to enhance convenience and strengthen respect and support for national merit recipients in daily life.
This project was planned to honor the dignity of national merit recipients who sacrificed and devoted themselves for the country and to foster patriotism among residents. Earlier in July, the district established the ‘Ordinance on the Installation and Operation of Priority Parking Spaces for National Merit Recipients in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul’ to provide the basis and standards for implementing the project.
According to this ordinance, the district mandated that public offices and public facilities with parking capacities of 100 or more vehicles must install at least one priority parking space, and it also recommends installing such spaces in off-street parking lots, attached parking lots, and multi-use facilities.
Additionally, to ensure convenience for national merit recipients, the parking spaces are installed near entrances or elevators.
The eligible users of the priority parking spaces are those registered under relevant laws, including ▲patriots themselves ▲national merit recipients themselves ▲recipients of veterans’ compensation themselves ▲and veterans themselves. When parking, they must carry a ‘National Merit Recipient ID’ or ‘Certificate’ issued by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. If it is confirmed that a vehicle is parked without a national merit recipient or related person on board, the vehicle may be advised to move.
The parking lots include Yeongdeungpo-bondong No.1 Public Parking Lot, Yeongdeungpo-dong No.3 Public Parking Lot, Singil Transfer (Line 5) Public Parking Lot, Dangsan Neighborhood Park Public Parking Lot, Yangpyeong Retention Basin Public Parking Lot, and Daerim Children’s Park Public Parking Lot. For detailed information, inquiries can be made to the district office’s Parking Culture Division.
Moreover, to honor the contributions of national merit recipients, the district offers various policies such as ▲free use of funeral hall mortuary rooms for the first time among autonomous districts ▲support for veterans’ honor allowances ▲subsidies for veterans’ organizations’ pilgrimage events to historic sites ▲special leave granted to district office employees who are national merit recipients or their bereaved families.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will do our best to honor the patriotic heroes who devoted and sacrificed for the country and to ensure that their bereaved families can take pride in them. We will continue to implement various policies to spread a healthy and mature culture of honoring veterans within the local community.”
