Gyeongmin Square on Gyeongmin University Road in Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do, will be completed this month.

On the 4th, Gyeonggi-do announced that the Gyeongmin Square on Gyeongmin University Road in Uijeongbu and the pedestrian environment improvement project, promoted as part of the urban regeneration project, will be completed this month. Along with the pedestrian environment improvement project, Gyeonggi-do is implementing various commercial district revitalization programs to breathe new life into the university road, such as improving signs in the surrounding area, experimenting with youth markets, operating flea markets, and providing business management consulting support for stores, helping local youth experience economic independence and growth.

The Gyeongmin Square on Gyeongmin University Road and pedestrian environment improvement project is a project to create Gyeongmin Square, a hub space centered on university culture where local residents, merchants, and students gather to communicate and interact, in the area of 566-28, Heungseon-dong, Uijeongbu-si, and to improve the pedestrian environment to enhance accessibility and safety for users of the university road.

Ahn Seong-hyun, head of the Regeneration Planning Team of Gyeonggi-do, said, "The new appearance of Gyeongmin University Road is a representative successful case of urban regeneration achieved through cooperation between the public, private, and academic sectors, marking the beginning of change dreamed and created together by the local community," and added, "We will strive to share and spread the achievements of the Gyeonggi The Dream regeneration project to more regions in the future, bringing about changes that everyone can empathize with and feel."

Meanwhile, to revitalize declining old downtown areas in the province, Gyeonggi-do, in cooperation with cities, counties, and urban regeneration support centers, has had 67 locations selected for the government’s urban regeneration contest projects.
