Jeonnam Provincial Council Education Committee, First Day Audit "Generally Fair"

Directly Affiliated Agencies Criticized for Issues and Weak Suggestions
Strong Audits Expected for Headquarters and Education Support Offices

Since June 1, the administrative audit (hereinafter referred to as the audit) of the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education's directly affiliated institutions conducted by the Jeonnam Provincial Council's Education Committee has been evaluated as passing without any 'decisive blow' or major criticism so far.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 3rd, this audit is being conducted on the Provincial Office of Education, 22 education support offices, and 12 directly affiliated institutions until the 12th at the Education Committee office of the Provincial Council and the main conference room of the Provincial Office of Education. On the first day, the Education Committee members conducted audits on 12 directly affiliated institutions including the Education Research Information Center, Education Training Institute, Student Education and Culture Center, and Mokpo and Naju Public Libraries in the standing committee meeting room.

The first day of the audit was dominated by the view that although the Education Committee continued to reprimand the negligence in management of directly affiliated institutions, it was generally mild.

On that day, Assemblyman Seo Daehyun (Democratic Party·Yeosu 2) pointed out the management of the websites of the Jeonnam Office of Education's directly affiliated institutions. He mentioned poor management based on the websites of institutions such as the Jeonnam Early Childhood Education Promotion Institute and requested improvements.

Assemblyman Seo said, “Most of the directly affiliated institutions’ websites of the Provincial Office of Education do not allow popup windows to open, and irrelevant content appears. The last upgrade was in 2021. The responsibility for future management should be clarified.” He added, “The website is the face of the institution. Poor management can cause significant inconvenience to parents seeking educational opportunities for their children.”

In response, Ahn Kyung-ah, director of the Jeonnam Early Childhood Education Promotion Institute, said, “We will correct the shortcomings and strive to improve.”

Although there is an evaluation that the role of pointing out problems and suggesting alternatives for the directly affiliated institutions was insufficient, the Education Committee members have shown strong determination to check educational issues ahead of the full-scale audit.

An official from the Provincial Office of Education said, “Due to the nature of the work, there are not many issues likely to arise from the directly affiliated institutions. However, strong criticism is expected in the upcoming audits of the main office and education support offices, so we are maintaining a high level of alertness.”
