The Party for National Innovation will disclose the grounds for impeachment against President Yoon Seok-yeol within this month.
Hwang Unha, floor leader of the Party for National Innovation, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 3rd and stated, "We are examining constitutional and legal violations that the Constitutional Court cannot help but remove the president from office."

Specifically, Floor Leader Hwang explained that "incorrect perceptions of past history, denial of the legal continuity of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea resulting from this, abuse of the presidential veto, and nullification of legislative power through enforcement ordinances are representative constitutional violations," and that such matters could be included as grounds for impeachment.
He added, "The discharge of Fukushima contaminated water, abuse of prosecution's investigation and indictment rights, the route change of the Yangpyeong highway, illegalities during the expansion of the presidential residence, and the tacit approval and aiding of illegal acts and corruption by First Lady Kim Geon-hee are also constitutional violations."
He continued, "Suspicions of external pressure on the Customs Service's drug investigation, weakening of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, regression in the reform of the National Intelligence Service, suppression of press freedom, and interference in party affairs that replaced the leader of the People Power Party are also grounds for impeachment," adding, "There was also negligence in protecting the lives and safety of the people during the Itaewon and Osong disasters."
Floor Leader Hwang emphasized, "The most relatable to the public are the 'Myeong Taegyun Gate' and the external pressure on the investigation of the Chae Sang-byeong case," and stressed, "Especially in the case of the 'Myeong Taegyun recording,' it could be a very serious ground for impeachment."
However, since the Party for National Innovation holds 12 seats, cooperation from the major opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea, is necessary to actually propose an impeachment motion. For a presidential impeachment motion, more than half of the total members of the National Assembly, i.e., at least 150 members, must participate in the proposal.
He said, "Currently, public demand for impeachment is so high that the Democratic Party will eventually have no choice but to join the impeachment," and added, "The Innovation Party has started the impeachment train. The Democratic Party will join soon."
Regarding the calls from some within the Democratic Party for a constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential term, he said, "It has the character of a national recall and is more democratically legitimate in that it decides the president's resignation directly by a national vote rather than entrusting the future of the Republic of Korea to the Constitutional Court," but added, "However, the Innovation Party will focus on impeachment as its basic stance."
