Jeonnam Province announced on the 3rd that it will hold the "Kim Dae-jung 100 Years Peace Festival" under the theme "Walking the Path of Peace and Life with President Kim Dae-jung" on the 5th and 6th of this month in the Mokpo area to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Kim Dae-jung.


Hosted by Jeonnam Province and the Provincial Office of Education and organized by the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center, the festival will feature a variety of events including an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, special lectures, invited lectures by foreign diplomatic envoys to Korea, and cultural events.


On the first day of the event, the opening ceremony will be held in the morning at Hotel Hyundai Bira in Yeongam, featuring an opening address by Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, welcome speeches by Kim Tae-gyun, Chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, and Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education, congratulatory remarks by Kwon No-gap, Chairman of the Kim Dae-jung Foundation, followed by congratulatory videos from world-renowned figures including Berit Reiss-Andersen, Chair of the Nobel Committee.


The main event will include a keynote speech titled "100 Years of the Republic of Korea, 100 Years of Kim Dae-jung" by Kim Sung-jae, Executive Director of the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center, and another keynote speech titled "Archbishop Desmond Tutu's Reconciliation and Peace: Implications for Korea" by Janet Jobson, CEO of the Desmond Tutu Foundation in South Africa. Special lectures over the two days until the 6th will feature global authorities and activists in the fields of the new Cold War, climate crisis, and artificial intelligence (AI).


Organized by the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, events planned include a "Youth Peace and Human Rights Talk Concert" on the 5th, a "Youth Peace and Human Rights Golden Bell Festival," and a performance of the play "I am Kim Dae-jung" on the 6th. The Peace Concert, held at 6 p.m. on the 6th at the Mokpo Culture and Arts Center, will feature performances by the fusion gugak group Queen, rock band Daybreak, and singer Song Ga-in.


Governor Kim Young-rok said, "Through this Peace Festival, I hope everyone will reflect on President Kim Dae-jung’s spirit of coexistence, solidarity, and cooperation, and share wisdom to overcome global crises."
