Application Deadline on the 15th of This Month
Shinwondong Project with a Total Floor Area of 19,349㎡
Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is planning to build the ‘Seocho-type Complex Welfare Town’ to expand public nursing facilities and is promoting a design competition. The Seocho-type Complex Welfare Town is a facility that Seocho-gu has been planning to construct since 2019 on a 11,979㎡ site at 225 Sinwon-dong, with a total floor area of 19,349㎡, consisting of one basement floor and five above-ground floors.
The facility will be built as a complex welfare town comprising elderly nursing facilities, home welfare facilities, a dementia relief center, a health branch office, and sports facilities, aiming to become a regional landmark suitable for the super-aged era beyond a simple nursing facility.
The district office is recruiting companies to register for participation in the design competition through the Seoul city competition website until the 15th of this month, and will accept design submissions from the registered companies until January 24th of next year.
The site for the ‘Seocho-type Complex Welfare Town’ is located in a development restriction zone, with Inreungsan Mountain at the rear and Cheonggyesan Mountain in front, offering scenic views. It is situated in a baesanimsu location with Yeoi Stream flowing right in front. It is a 10-minute walk from Cheonggyesan Entrance Station and adjacent to the Gyeongbu Expressway, providing convenient road access, making it an optimal location for an elderly nursing facility.
In particular, considering that the long corridor structure of existing nursing facilities can give a hospital-like feeling, the facility will introduce the ‘unit care’ structure on the largest scale nationwide, providing elderly users with a home-like environment and living spaces where they can communicate with each other. Additionally, one floor will be fully designed and applied as a unit care pilot model by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, consisting solely of single rooms.
Recognizing that reducing the workload of care workers improves service quality, significant efforts will be made in spatial planning. To encourage submissions of excellent architectural works from both domestic and international architects, the design guidelines will be provided in three languages: Korean, English, and Japanese, and foreign architects may apply jointly with domestic architects.
District Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, "I hope that creative and innovative design proposals will be selected through this design competition," and added, "We will strive to ensure that the Complex Welfare Town sets a new standard for advanced public nursing facilities and becomes a new landmark of Seocho."
