Claims in Police Investigation: "My Daughter Gaslights Me"

The prosecution has demanded a 7-year prison sentence for a woman in her 30s who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon (attempted murder) against a teenage boy dating her daughter.

On September 9, Ms. A stabbed C (14) in the abdomen and shoulder on a street in Suseong-gu, Daegu, while he was with her daughter, Ms. B (16).

Previously, after Ms. B met C through an acquaintance and began engaging in delinquent behavior such as skipping school, drinking alcohol, and smoking, Ms. A moved them to Jeju to separate the two.

However, Ms. B overdosed on sleeping pills in Jeju and fell into a coma. When she woke up, Ms. A forced her not to meet C.

Nonetheless, Ms. B soon returned to Daegu, and Ms. A, after drinking alcohol, waited for Mr. B and then wielded a weapon against him, according to the investigation.

The CCTV footage from the scene captured the entire incident. When C, stabbed in the abdomen, fled in shock, Ms. A tried to follow him. Ms. B grabbed her arm to stop her, but Ms. A broke free and chased C for about 300 meters.

C collapsed at the entrance of a shopping area, unable to escape further, and while Ms. A and Ms. B struggled, the police arrived and subdued Ms. A with a baton, arresting her.

During the police investigation, Ms. A claimed, "Because of C, my daughter started to deviate," and alleged that C was gaslighting Ms. B. She reportedly stated, "When reporting to the police did not resolve the issue, I took matters into my own hands."

However, at the sentencing hearing held on the 1st before Judge Lee Jong-gil of the 11th Criminal Division at Daegu District Court, the prosecution explained the reason for demanding a 7-year sentence, stating, "Although it was impulsive, she attempted to kill a minor," and "The victim regained consciousness but must live with digestive dysfunction and other complications."

In her final statement, Ms. A pleaded for leniency, saying, "I want to return to the arms of the children waiting at home, unaware of everything."
