The Gwangju City Women's Choir is taking a commemorative photo after winning the Gold Prize at the '2024 Busan International Choir Festival' held at the Busan Cinema Center. The Gwangju-si Women's Choir in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 1st that they achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Gold Diploma at the '2024 Busan International Choir Festival' held at the Busan Cinema Center.
Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the Busan International Choir Festival featured 57 amateur choirs from 5 countries who advanced to the finals after the first round of audio screening. They competed fiercely in five categories: classical, folk music, pop, a cappella, and youth. The Gwangju-si Women's Choir participated in the classical category and won the gold prize with a highly polished performance.
The Busan International Choir Festival serves as a meeting ground that promotes artistic development through competition and cultural exchange through choral music. It is an internationally recognized cultural event better known overseas than domestically, and was held over four days from the 23rd to the 26th of last month at venues including the Busan Cinema Center and BEXCO.
Yang Hee-young, director of the Gwangju-si Women's Choir, expressed joy, saying, "I am truly happy to receive the Gold Diploma at an international competition," and added, "This award is a valuable achievement accomplished together by the members who practiced steadily and diligently, the conductor who guided us with passion, and the accompanist."
Founded in 1989 and now in its 35th year, the Gwangju-si Women's Choir is a purely amateur choir that tirelessly strives to promote and elevate the cultural arts of Gwangju-si. It is composed of 31 members.
Meanwhile, prior to this competition, the Gwangju-si Women's Choir won the Encouragement Award at the 1st National April 19th Choir Competition and the Bronze Prize at the 6th National Saemaeul Choir Festival, establishing themselves as a skilled representative choir of the region. They plan to hold their 27th regular concert on December 3rd at the Namhansanseong Art Hall Grand Theater.
