Maxst Surpasses 30,000 Cumulative Downloads of AR Developer Kit

The number of developers worldwide using domestic solutions to develop augmented reality (AR) services has surpassed 30,000.

XR tech company Maxst announced on the 1st that the cumulative downloads of its ‘AR Developer Kit (AR SDK)’ have exceeded 30,000.

Maxst’s AR SDK is a solution provided for AR app development. This year, it was updated to version 6.2.0 to enhance performance. It offers six functions for recognizing and tracking flat images and three-dimensional spaces. A feature enabling spatial recognition to implement AR functions was also added. With the AR Scanner app, users can scan spaces to generate spatial data and place content to create apps.

A company representative said, "The AR SDK supports various AR glasses by enabling easy spatial recognition and scanning," adding, "Demand seems to be increasing recently in line with the trend of smart glasses."

Next year, version 7.0 with a ‘Web AR’ feature is planned for release. Supporting Web AR allows simple functions to be used on the web without developing an app. Users can use AR functions without installing a separate app.

Maxst’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Jo Gyuseong said, "More than 9,000 apps applying Maxst’s AR technology have been created worldwide over the past five years," and added, "As the smart glasses market is expected to grow, more companies will seek Maxst’s AR solutions."

U.S. market research firm Cognitive Market Research recently estimated in its ‘Smart Glass Market Research 2024’ report that the global smart glasses market size this year is $5.9842 billion (approximately 8.2593 trillion KRW). It is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 27.5% until 2031.
