This visit, a follow-up to Mayor Jeong's visit to the ASM and ASML headquarters in April, included expanding cooperation at the Gyeonggi Province level.

On the 30th, Mayor Jeong visited the ASML headquarters in Veldhoven, Netherlands, the world’s number one company in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment sector. He held a meeting with company executives, including Wayne Allen, Senior Vice President and Chief Sales Officer (CSO), and toured the experience center and semiconductor manufacturing processes.

At the meeting, Mayor Jeong said, "I hope ASML will grow together with Hwaseong City and solidify its position as the world’s top semiconductor equipment company. Taking this visit as an opportunity, we will cooperate with Gyeonggi Province and ASML to ensure the timely promotion of the ASML Hwaseong cluster and make Hwaseong City a truly global semiconductor hub beyond Korea."

Vice President Allen responded, "We appreciate the administrative support that has allowed ASML to grow in Hwaseong City. We ask for continued support so that ASML can grow even further in Hwaseong City."

On the 31st, Governor Kim and Mayor Jeong’s delegation visited the headquarters of ASM, the world’s number one company in the atomic layer deposition (ALD) sector, located in Almere, Netherlands. They met with Hichem Emsad, CEO of ASM, and signed a win-win cooperation MOU among Gyeonggi Province, Hwaseong City, and ASM to leap forward as a global core city for next-generation semiconductors. Through this agreement, ASM plans to invest 3 trillion KRW in the province by 2030.

Mayor Jeong stated, "We ask for continuous investment in research and development and manufacturing facilities in Hwaseong, a global semiconductor hub. We will spare no administrative support for any difficulties companies face during the project’s progress."

CEO Emsad said, "The smooth expansion investment of ASM’s Korea branch would not have been possible without Hwaseong City’s administrative support," and promised, "ASM will actively cooperate to help Hwaseong City grow into a global core city for next-generation semiconductors."

Meanwhile, Mayor Jeong visited IMEC in Belgium, known as the world’s top semiconductor research institute, during this trip to seek advice on preparations and research institute operations for attracting the Advanced Semiconductor Technology Center (Korean-style IMEC) promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. He also proposed to IMEC the establishment of an IMEC office in Hwaseong City.
