AI company Saltlux announced that it participated in the founding ceremony of the 'Sea AI Forum' held at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul on the 30th of last month.

The forum, hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), was established as a public-private cooperation platform to introduce AI technology to the maritime and fisheries sector and accelerate digital transformation. The forum saw broad participation from public institutions such as the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), and the National Institute of Fisheries Science, as well as research institutes and private companies including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), KT, and Saltlux, aiming to strengthen AI collaboration systems.

The 'Sea AI Forum' was founded in response to the growing need for AI technology in the maritime and fisheries sector, keeping pace with the advancement of AI technology and the overall digital transformation trend in industries. The forum aims to ▲establish a roadmap for introducing AI technology in maritime and fisheries ▲build data standardization and quality management systems ▲discover pilot projects applying AI technology ▲develop AI models specialized for maritime and fisheries ▲and foster expert personnel. Participating organizations, including Saltlux, plan to actively promote AI utilization in the maritime and fisheries sector by sharing their respective data, technologies, and expertise.

At the founding ceremony, major participating organizations such as Pusan National University, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), KT, and Saltlux signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Professor Cha Kyung-jin from Hanyang University delivered the keynote speech titled 'Maritime and Fisheries Strategy in the AI Era.' Afterwards, experts from various fields gathered to discuss public-private-academic-industry cooperation measures for the effective use of AI in the maritime and fisheries industry.

Saltlux supports the efficient collection, analysis, and utilization of maritime and fisheries data by leveraging its AI technology and data processing capabilities, thereby enhancing overall efficiency in the maritime and fisheries sector and contributing to realizing the forum’s vision. Since May, Saltlux has also been participating in the ‘AI-based Fishery Spatial Information Big Data Platform Construction and Utilization Project,’ promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency.

A Saltlux representative stated, "The maritime and fisheries sector is an area where AI can play a significant role due to its complex environmental factors and vast data. Through the Sea AI Forum, we will strengthen the cooperation network and propose innovative solutions based on specialized AI models and data, contributing to South Korea’s leap forward as a smart maritime powerhouse."
