Teacher A claims "Child got hurt while playing"
CCTV shows teacher grabbing arm and throwing child down
An incident of child abuse has sparked public outrage at a daycare center in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.
According to MBC on the 1st, the parent of a 4-year-old child was contacted by the daycare center last March, informing them that "the child had a wound on their face." Teacher A reportedly said that the child "slipped and got hurt" and "got injured while playing."
The victim child hit the edge of a desk, causing a cut under the nose that required six stitches at a plastic surgery clinic. However, the parents found the teachers' behavior at the hospital suspicious. Teacher A, not the director, offered to pay the child's medical bills. Sensing something was wrong, the parents checked the daycare center's closed-circuit television (CCTV).
The CCTV footage showed a child wearing a red top wandering around, and Teacher A grabbing the child's arm and throwing them to the floor. The fallen child then hit their face on the edge of a desk. After watching the video, the parents immediately reported the incident to the police.
The police, who launched an investigation, confirmed additional abuse cases. It was revealed that during the less than one month Teacher A had worked at the daycare, two 2-year-old children were also abused in a similar manner, involving pushing or throwing them down.
The victim child's father said, "I am extremely angry," adding, "If the person in charge, the director, had come to the hospital and spoken to us at that time, we might not have had to report this to the police."
The prosecution has indicted Teacher A on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes. However, it is reported that the daycare center is still in operation.
