Korea Ginseng Corporation Wonju Plant Designated as a 'Green Company'

Excellent green activities achievements such as zero landfill, water reuse, and recycling conversion

Wonju City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Won Kang-su), announced on the 1st that Korea Ginseng Corporation Wonju Plant (Plant Manager Jo Chan-gi) was recently designated as a Green Company, becoming the second in Wonju City following HL Mando Wonju Plant.

The Green Company designation system, which began in 1995, is based on the Environmental Technology and Environmental Industry Support Act. It designates manufacturing and non-manufacturing (including public and social services) companies or institutions that significantly contribute to environmental improvement through remarkable reduction of key pollutants, saving resources and energy, improving the environmental aspects of products, and establishing green management systems. Currently, 96 companies nationwide have been designated. In Wonju City, there are two designated companies: HL Mando Wonju Plant and the newly designated Korea Ginseng Corporation Wonju Plant.

Director Lee Yul-beom (right in the photo) of the Wonju Regional Environmental Office visited the KGC Ginseng Corporation Wonju Factory on the 30th of last month to present the Green Company designation certificate and plaque.

Korea Ginseng Corporation Wonju Plant received recognition as a circular resource by recycling all plant residues generated during the production of red ginseng products as feed. It was highly evaluated for excellent green activities such as zero waste landfill certification, expansion of water reuse, and conversion of waste to recycling.

Plant Manager Jo Chan-gi stated, “We will do our best to serve as a model Green Company through continuous investment and efforts in ESG areas such as eco-friendly management, community contribution, and transparent governance.”

A Wonju City official said, “We congratulate Korea Ginseng Corporation on its designation as a Green Company,” and added, “We hope that Korea Ginseng Corporation and Wonju City can grow and prosper together in the future.”
