Yu Young-chul (54), the serial killer who killed the most people in South Korea, reportedly expressed his distress to a prison guard, saying he "sees the ghosts of the victims."

On the 31st, Lee Yoon-hwi, a former prison guard who appeared on SBS's "The Day Stories That Keep Coming," said, "Yu Young-chul looked for me with bloodshot eyes and confessed that he has been having trouble sleeping lately," adding, "When I asked why, he said the victims appear as ghosts every night."

He continued, "He said he keeps seeing hallucinations near the bathroom in the solitary confinement room, just below the ceiling. About three to four ghosts keep appearing," and "He said he can't sleep and is very exhausted from his daily routine. He talked like this."

The cast members who heard the stories were shocked. Actor Choi Deok-moon clicked his tongue and said, "Wouldn't the ghosts stop appearing if he changed rooms? It's karma." Actor Jang Hyun-sung also remarked, "Even a psychopathic criminal seemed to be afraid of actually seeing the victims," and added, "Instead of sleep, wouldn't it have been more important to sincerely ask for forgiveness from the victims and their families?"

Meanwhile, Yu Young-chul is a serial killer who murdered 20 people from September 2003 to July 2004. Before the serial killings, he committed numerous crimes such as theft and rape, and had 14 prior convictions at the time of his arrest. The number of victims he initially confessed to was 30, but the confirmed number of victims to date is 20. The Yu Young-chul case was the first to introduce the concept of "psychopath" in South Korea.

Yu Young-chul's death sentence was finalized in June 2005, and he is currently imprisoned at Seoul Detention Center as a death row inmate awaiting execution.
