The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 31st that it held a preliminary meeting of the (tentative name) Guri Science High School Attraction Working Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Working Committee) with the Guri-Namyangju Office of Education in Gyeonggi Province (hereinafter referred to as the Office of Education) on the 30th to attract a Gyeonggi-type science high school.


The Working Committee, composed of eight members including public officials from both organizations, education-related experts, and parents, held an in-depth discussion during the meeting to prepare the application form tailored to the evaluation criteria in accordance with the 'Gyeonggi-type Science High School New Designation Phase 1 Preliminary Designation Contest' plan announced by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.


Additionally, the city and the Office of Education decided to accelerate efforts to attract the Gyeonggi-type science high school by signing a memorandum of understanding on November 8 to establish a cooperative system in administrative and financial areas.


Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri said, "I firmly believe that attracting a Gyeonggi-type science high school will not only expand Guri's educational infrastructure but also serve as a catalyst for raising the standard of local public education," adding, "We will spare no effort to achieve this to improve the local educational environment."


Meanwhile, Guri City is conducting an online and offline signature campaign to gather citizens' opinions on the establishment of the new science high school. The signature campaign is open for participation until November 5 through the Guri City Hall website and each district administrative welfare center.
