Preventing Respiratory Infections in Elderly During Seasonal Change... 130,000 KF94 Masks and Hand Sanitizers Provided for Disinfection Support
Targeting 376 Locations Including 176 Senior Centers, 3 Senior Welfare Centers, and 197 Long-term Care Facilities
As the autumn season becomes noticeably chillier, Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will urgently provide quarantine supplies to 376 elderly welfare facilities in the area starting from November to prevent respiratory diseases among senior citizens.
Although the pandemic has ended, highly contagious infectious diseases such as COVID-19, influenza, and pneumonia remain deadly to the vulnerable elderly population. Songpa-gu, home to the largest elderly population among Seoul's autonomous districts with approximately 108,000 seniors, has been consistently supporting quarantine supplies and disinfection since 2020 to help residents enjoy a healthy old age without illness.
This year as well, to prevent the spread of infectious diseases among the elderly, 130,000 quarantine items will be distributed to 176 senior centers, 3 senior welfare centers, and 197 long-term care institutions, totaling 376 elderly welfare facilities.
Guidance on personal hygiene practices such as proper handwashing and cough etiquette will also be provided to enhance the effectiveness of disease prevention.
Seok-Suk Seo, Mayor of Songpa District, is visiting the home of an elderly resident to offer comfort and engage in conversation.
The main quarantine supplies include KF94 masks, hand sanitizers, and disposable gloves. Based on a prior needs survey, masks were selectively distributed to home care facilities with frequent close contact, while disposable gloves were allocated to elderly care facilities where hygiene products are essential, thereby reducing unnecessary budget waste.
Additionally, to maintain clean air quality in living environments such as senior welfare centers and day and night care facilities, various disinfection services including air conditioner cleaning by professional quarantine companies will be additionally supported.
Furthermore, the district is working to enrich the often monotonous lives of the elderly by expanding leisure facilities and revitalizing senior centers. In March next year, the ‘Munjeong Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center’ will newly open, marking the first such facility in 29 years since the Songpa Senior Welfare Center in 1996. Specialized programs will also be expanded at senior centers to support the joyful lives of the elderly in various ways.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure that senior citizens can spend the cold season healthily without contracting infectious diseases,” and added, “We will continue to discover diverse welfare support measures so that the elderly can enjoy a happy old age while taking care of their physical and mental health.”
