Namyangju City is promoting a pedestrian environment improvement project, including replacing old pavement blocks, to provide citizens with a safe and pleasant walking environment. Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 31st that it is actively promoting pedestrian environment improvement projects, including replacing old sidewalk blocks, to provide citizens with a safe and pleasant walking environment.
The pedestrian environment improvement project is being carried out sequentially within the budget, focusing on the maintenance of aging sidewalks in the original downtown areas such as Toegyewon-eup, Byeollae-myeon, Jinjeop-eup, and Wabu-eup.
Among the project sections, the Tojegwon-eup Dojewon-ro section (Toegyewon-ri 53-11 to 221-1) has received complaints about pedestrian inconvenience through the National Newspaper Complaint System and others. Accordingly, the city is replacing the blocks with drainage-enhanced permeable blocks considering factors such as aging, flatness, and permeability.
In addition, reflecting administrative audit points and residents' suggestions, the city conducted demand and field surveys targeting the old sidewalk sections in the Byeollae-myeon Cheonghak district (Cheonghak-ri 409-5, 419-6, 426-3), and is promoting maintenance based on a sequential maintenance plan considering the completion year of the housing district.
A city official stated, “Improving the sidewalk environment is an essential project to prevent pedestrian accidents. Namyangju City will continue to do its best to create a walking environment where residents can use safely and comfortably.”
Meanwhile, starting this year, the city has expanded and reorganized the department dedicated to road management to operate the ‘Road Management Office,’ consisting of three departments, to manage roads more efficiently.
