The Korea Football Association (KFA) labor union has called for the impeachment of Chairman Chung Mong-gyu at the delegates' general meeting as the only solution to prevent his fourth term, urging the delegates to make a decisive decision.
On the 31st, the football association labor union stated in a press release, "The Korea Sports Council Fairness Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have no 'legal means' to remove Chairman Chung." They particularly pointed out that the government's veto power is ineffective due to the possibility of sanctions from the F?d?ration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
The union predicted that Chairman Chung's bid for a fourth term would be further enforced, citing recent strong performances in the 2026 North and Central America World Cup Asia third qualifiers, hosting the AFC awards ceremony, and supportive remarks from FIFA President Gianni Infantino. They also expected that Chairman Chung would smoothly pass the approval process, having met all four-term conditions required by the Korea Sports Council Fairness Committee.
Accordingly, the union emphasized that impeachment at the delegates' general meeting, composed of 34 members including CEOs of the 12 K League 1 clubs, 17 city and provincial association presidents, and various federation heads, is the only solution. According to the association's bylaws, a dismissal motion can be proposed with the consent of more than 18 delegates, and the chairman can be dismissed if more than 23 delegates approve.
"Chairman Chung's leadership has collapsed, and as long as he remains, there is no hope for Korean football," the union appealed, urging, "Delegates should recognize their historic responsibility and take the lead in impeaching Chairman Chung."
