'Lee Seon-gyun Threat' Entertainment Venue Manager Sentenced to 1 Year for Drug Use Charges

Doctor in 40s Who Gave Drugs to Department Head Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison

The manager of a nightlife establishment, who is on trial for extorting 300 million won by threatening the late actor Lee Seon-gyun, was first sentenced to prison for a drug use case. A doctor in his 40s, who handed drugs to the manager and also used them himself, was also sentenced to prison, resulting in the cancellation of his bail and re-arrest.

On the 31st, the Criminal Division 14 of the Incheon District Court (Chief Judge Son Seung-beom) sentenced A (30, female), the manager of the nightlife establishment, to one year in prison for charges related to marijuana and psychotropic substances under the Narcotics Control Act. Doctor B (43, male), who was also indicted on the same charges, was sentenced to two years in prison and had his bail revoked. Both were also ordered to complete 40 hours of drug addiction rehabilitation education programs.

The court explained the sentencing by stating, "A received drugs from B three times and used them, and also has a prior record of punishment for the same crime," but "considered that she admitted all charges and showed remorse." Regarding B, the court judged, "As a doctor who should prevent drug abuse and lead addiction treatment, he betrayed his conscience and committed the crime," and "Considering the number of offenses, both the nature and culpability of the crime are serious."

However, the court added, "B admitted some of the offenses," and "considered that he has no prior record of the same crime."

At A's sentencing hearing held in July, the prosecution demanded two years in prison, and at B's separate sentencing hearing last month, four years in prison were demanded. A, who has six prior convictions including drug offenses, was arrested and indicted for using or smoking methamphetamine or marijuana three times from March to August last year.

Separately from this case, A is currently on trial for extortion, accused of threatening Lee Seon-gyun and extorting 300 million won in September last year. It was investigated that A received money before Lee's death, saying, "An unknown hacker is trying to expose our relationship. I think I need to stop it with money."

B was indicted for handing methamphetamine and ketamine to A three times at his hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and other places from December 2022 to August last year.

He is also accused of alternately smoking marijuana with an acquaintance at an apartment in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on January 17, 2021, and purchasing 1 million won worth of liquid marijuana through an acquaintance near the hospital in June of the same year.

Meanwhile, B, who was arrested in December last year, was released on bail in July under conditions such as attaching an electronic tracking device (electronic anklet) and has been on trial without detention.
