An amateur Taekwondo tournament, where the passion and spirit of university students from across the country can be witnessed, will be held in Taean, Chungnam.

The Taean County Office announced that the 45th National University Taekwondo Club Championship will take place at the Taean General Indoor Gymnasium over three days, from November 8 to 10.

Hosted by the Taean County Sports Council and organized by the National University Taekwondo Club Association, this event aims to promote the revival of Taekwondo, Korea's national martial art, and to foster the physical and mental health of university students. Following last year, this is the second consecutive year that the competition is being held in Taean.

As the only purely amateur national Taekwondo tournament in Korea, approximately 1,500 participants, including about 1,200 athletes and cheering squads from 45 universities nationwide, such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University, are expected to visit Taean.

On the first day, November 8, the teams will gather and weigh-ins will be conducted. On the second day, November 9, the opening ceremony will begin at 9 a.m., followed by individual sparring and poomsae competitions. On the final day, November 10, both men's and women's individual and team matches will take place.

Taean County plans to actively support the successful hosting of the tournament by providing various facilities for smooth operation and promoting the event to encourage many residents to visit the venue.

In particular, with about 1,500 visitors expected to use local accommodations during the event, the tournament is anticipated to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy.

A county official stated, "Based on last year's experience, we are thoroughly preparing to ensure this year's tournament is also a success. We will continue to attract national tournaments in the future to further boost the local economy."

Meanwhile, Taean County is emerging as a new hub for Taekwondo, having hosted not only this National University Taekwondo Club Championship but also the 'Daejeon MBC International Open Taekwondo Tournament' for two consecutive years since last year.
