POSCO E&C announced on the 31st that it held the 'Industry-Academia-Research Technology Forum in the Nuclear Power Sector' at its office in Songdo, Incheon.

POSCO E&C explained that the forum was held as part of efforts to recognize the importance of the nuclear power sector amid the paradigm shift to renewable energy and to keep pace with market trends.
The forum was attended by over 150 experts from various sectors of industry, academia, and research, including Professor Jaeyoung Lee of Handong University, who is a POSCO Nuclear Power Chair Professor, as well as representatives from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Seoul National University, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and POSCO Holdings. They exchanged opinions and knowledge on various topics related to the nuclear power sector.
Professor Lee delivered the keynote speech on "Strategies to Strengthen Competitiveness in the Nuclear Power Industry and Group Synergy Plans." Following this, Professor Hyungjin Shim of Seoul National University gave an in-depth presentation on "Why Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) Are Future Energy Game Changers," covering the technical advantages of SMRs, their potential applications, and their impact on the future energy market. Director Jungbin Shin of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power presented on creating business opportunities in nuclear power, outlining Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power’s mid- to long-term business strategies and synergy strategies for coexistence with POSCO. Lastly, POSCO E&C’s Nuclear Power Business Unit presented its business strategies, followed by a panel discussion among seven representatives from industry, academia, and research on "Measures to Strengthen Small Modular Reactors and Large Nuclear Power Plants."
POSCO E&C stated that the forum was meaningful in discussing strategies to enhance capabilities in large nuclear power plants and SMR projects, as well as ways to utilize nuclear energy for hydrogen-based steelmaking, thereby sharing insights on synergy creation among POSCO group companies.
A POSCO E&C official said, "Through this forum, we established a strategic direction in response to the expansion of the nuclear energy market," adding, "We will strengthen our capabilities in the nuclear power sector and continue efforts to reduce carbon emissions through collaboration with group companies."
