Designating a "Leaf Waste Intensive Collection Period" for 3 months starting November with proactive collection activities
Temporary free collection for apartments, apply by placing only leaves in sacks or transparent bags
Collected leaves are converted into fuel free of charge in cooperation with eco-friendly energy companies, contributing to resource recycling enhancement
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has designated the period from November to January next year, approximately three months, as the "Fallen Leaf Waste Intensive Collection Period" and will begin full-scale collection activities.
Fallen leaf waste that is not collected in a timely manner is a major cause of winter fires.
In particular, if left unattended for a long time, it can mix with various types of trash, damaging the urban landscape and causing safety accidents.
Accordingly, the district plans to proactively carry out collection activities by mobilizing environmental officers and street cleaning vehicles to create a clean residential environment in winter and prevent safety accidents.
Additionally, from November 18 to January 31 next year, temporary free collection of fallen leaf waste will be conducted targeting apartments, small multi-family housing, schools, and other places where large amounts of fallen leaves are generated.
Residents who wish to use the free collection service can apply by placing fallen leaf waste in burlap sacks or transparent bags and submitting an application to the Gwangjin-gu Office Cleaning Department or the person in charge via email. After coordinating the visit schedule, Gwangjin-gu will send collection vehicles to pick up the fallen leaf waste. However, collection is not possible if foreign substances such as household waste are mixed in, so only fallen leaves must be placed for disposal.
The collected fallen leaves will be processed into fuel free of charge in cooperation with an eco-friendly energy company, which is expected to greatly contribute to promoting resource recycling and reducing budget expenses.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "We will operate the fallen leaf waste intensive collection period until January next year so that all residents can spend this winter comfortably and safely," adding, "Gwangjin-gu will actively collect fallen leaf waste to minimize residents' inconveniences and do its best to revitalize the resource circulation economy."
