The 'Digital Tourist Resident Card Project,' conducted to attract living population to areas facing population extinction, was first selected in Goryeong County, Gyeongbuk Province, and the issuance service began on May 31 last year.
As of the 30th, 1 year and 5 months after the start of issuing the tourist resident cards, data from the Korea Tourism Organization's 'Korea Travel Easy' app shows that the number of digital tourist resident card holders reached 126,086, which is approximately 417.5% of Goryeong County's total registered population (30,200 as of October 2024), exceeding four times the resident population.
Analyzing the issuance status of subscribers, it was revealed that the highest number of cards were issued during June, coinciding with the Korea Tourism Organization's 'Travel Month' campaign, and in September and October, when Goryeong County began voice-guided promotions for digital tourist resident card registration through T map to activate the digital tourist resident card.
Accordingly, Goryeong County plans to hold an explanatory meeting on November 4 at the Daegaya History Theme Tourist Site (Inbingwan) together with the Korea Tourism Organization to provide more benefits to tourist residents visiting the area and to recruit new benefit providers for the 'Visiting Digital Tourist Resident Card Project.'
Additionally, during the government's 'Traveling Autumn' campaign in November, a special 'Youth Travel Week' will be set from November 16 to 24 for nine days. During this period, cultural events such as performances will be held at Dasan Ginkgo Forest, known as a hot place for autumn travel and a drama filming location, along with digital tourist resident card issuance events.
County Governor Namcheol Lee said, “We will support the promotion of participating businesses to provide more discount benefits in tourism, accommodation, experiences, and food and beverage to tourist residents who show great interest and visit our county, contributing to the increase of the living population and revitalization of the local economy. We will also expand the number of food and beverage discount providers such as cafes and restaurants.”
