tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' Appearance
"Feels Like the Movie 'The Truman Show'"
"Felt Like Being Cornered"
Singer G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong, 36) opened up about his feelings regarding past drug use allegations.
On the 30th, G-Dragon appeared on the tvN variety show 'You Quiz on the Block' ahead of the release of his new song "Power." On the show, he said, "I started training as a trainee when I was six years old and debuted at 19. I only lived as Kwon Ji-yong for about 4 to 5 years, and for over 20 years, I lived either as a trainee or as G-Dragon. There was a time when I didn't know who I was."
He continued, "During the world tour, I didn't even know which country I was in," and confessed, "I am loved by many, and I lack nothing, but I wondered, 'Am I happy? I should be happy. There is nothing that should make me unhappy.' It felt like the movie 'The Truman Show.'" He added, "Because everything was going so well, asking for comfort felt like a spoiled complaint. I don't think I could do it again even if I went back." Furthermore, he said, "These days, I have been living too much as Ji-yong, so it's time to find GD again. It feels like returning to normal life." He also shared, "Now that the comeback is just starting, I am happily matching my steps. About ten years have passed since my twenties, so I have let myself go a little lighter, in a good way."
Later, in an interview with the production team, G-Dragon addressed various rumors surrounding him. He said, "Having lived a glamorous life for more than half my life, situations that were not my problems happened. I tried to handle things as best as I could within my limits, but I felt like I was being cornered without finding answers. You can think of it as if there is another space behind the corner, but at that time, it felt like being trapped." He added, "When mentally exhausted, one might think of dangerous things, so I tried to forcibly keep my center." Earlier, in October last year, A, a manager at a nightlife establishment in Gangnam, reported that G-Dragon had used drugs, causing controversy. He consistently denied the allegations, and a preliminary drug test also came back negative. Two months after the incident was reported, on December 14, he was finally cleared of all charges.
