Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold the ‘2024 Yeongdeungpo-gu Residents Unity Sports Festival’ on November 2 at the outdoor riverside soccer field near the National Assembly, creating a venue for harmony with residents from 18 neighborhoods.
The ‘Yeongdeungpo-gu Residents Unity Sports Festival’ is an event revived after 7 years since 2017, integrating the sports competitions that were previously held separately by each neighborhood into a format where all residents can participate together.
This event is hosted by the District Sports Council, organized by the District Disabled Sports Council, the sports councils of the 18 neighborhoods, and various sports associations, and supported by Yeongdeungpo-gu.
The sports festival will run from 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony until 5 p.m., designed as a ‘festival-style community sports event’ where residents of all ages, including men and women, people with and without disabilities, can enjoy and communicate together.
The event will open with an entrance ceremony featuring residents from the 18 neighborhoods. Following this, competitions in a total of eight sports will take place, including ▲the finals of league matches by sport such as Jokgu (foot volleyball), badminton, and gateball, and ▲resident participation games such as Ojami basketball, color board flipping, large baton relay, ad balloon relay, and Hangung.
Additional side events enjoyable for various age groups will also be prepared. The district plans to operate diverse experience booths including tee-ball, hand massage, tarot & saju (fortune-telling), face painting, calligraphy, and Yeongdeungpo photo booths. Moreover, performances to boost excitement such as taekwondo demonstrations, cheerleading, dance sports, and calisthenics will be held, along with an awards ceremony and lucky draw to bring joy to participants.
There will also be celebratory performances to captivate the eyes and ears of residents. Following singers Na Tae-ju and Han So-min, who gained popular recognition through the Miss & Mister Trot program, Park Sang-min will also appear to further elevate the festival’s energy.
The district expects about 4,000 local residents to participate in this sports festival, fostering communication and harmony. To prepare for any safety incidents, ambulances, medical personnel, and safety and order staff will be deployed, and an emergency communication system will be maintained with related organizations such as the Yeongdeungpo Police Station.
All residents can participate in the sports festival free of charge without prior registration, and viewing is also freely allowed. For more details, inquiries can be made to the District Office’s Culture and Sports Division.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I hope the residents’ unity sports festival, returning after 7 years, will be a joyful festival where new neighbors meet, communicate, and harmonize together,” adding, “We will continue to expand participation opportunities so that residents can enjoy community sports without discrimination and build a healthy local society.”
