Opening Six Overseas Business Centers by Year-End
London, Frankfurt, Milano, Madrid, and More
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on the 30th that they will open six overseas business centers by the end of the year. Starting this month with London in the UK, Frankfurt in Germany, and Milan in Italy, they will sequentially establish centers in Madrid, Spain; Stockholm, Sweden; and Istanbul, Turkey. A representative from the Korea Creative Content Agency stated, “Including the existing France (Paris) Business Center, we will operate seven centers in Europe,” and added, “We expect to expand the entry of K-content into the European market.”
The UK Business Center opened on the 23rd. Its first project was ‘The Eoullim in London’ held at the Saatchi Gallery in London. It was an exhibition of content converging new technologies. It widely promoted extended reality (XR), designated by the UK government as one of the four major digital technologies. Park Jeong-yeon, the center director, said, “We will concretize related projects to lead domestic companies into the UK market.”
The Germany Business Center was launched on the 17th at the world’s largest book fair, the Frankfurt Book Fair. Going forward, it will promote business-to-business matching centered on webtoons and support participation in local markets. The German comics market is the fourth largest in the world, making it an ideal target for the European market.
The Italy Business Center officially started operations on the 28th in Florence. It signed a business agreement with Pitti Immagine, the organizer of the world-renowned men’s fashion fair Pitti Uomo. Raffaello Napoleone, president of Pitti Immagine, said, “Korean fashion content presents new concepts by converging various genres,” and added, “It will receive great attention in Italy.”
The Korea Creative Content Agency currently operates twenty-five overseas business centers in twenty-two countries. It plans to open five more centers next year. Overseas business centers are institutions that build local content industry networks through supporting domestic content promotion and marketing, assisting domestic companies’ local entry, and discovering buyers. They are leading the spread of K-content by providing the latest trends in local markets.
