Assemblyman Heo Jong-sik "Improving Pedestrian Environment in Dohwa District"
The underground wiring project, which involves burying overhead wires and utility poles along the sidewalks near schools in Dohwa District, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, is set to improve the walking environment and urban landscape.
On the 30th, Heo Jong-sik, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Dong-gu and Michuhol-gu Gap in Incheon, announced, "Among the nine projects applied for government-supported underground wiring projects in the Incheon area, the 'Incheon Business High School Area Green New Deal Underground Wiring' project in Michuhol-gu was the only one selected."
With a total project cost of about 1.5 billion KRW, the underground wiring project will commence next May along a 1.07 km sidewalk area around Dohwa-dong 1000, and is scheduled to be completed by April 2027.
Since 2021, the government has been selecting underground wiring project sites targeting school commuting routes, urban regeneration areas, traditional markets, and aging industrial complexes. The project costs are shared with the government and Korea Electric Power Corporation and telecommunications companies each covering 20% and 50%, respectively, and local governments covering 30%.
As of the end of last year, the underground wiring rate in Incheon was 47.1%, higher than the national average of 21.3%, ranking third nationwide after Seoul (62.2%) and Daejeon (57.6%).
Rep. Heo said, "Through the underground wiring project around Incheon Business High School, the landscape around Dohwa District will be improved, and the walking rights of citizens and students are expected to be enhanced. We will also strive to have multiple projects requested by local governments selected in the old downtown area during the review scheduled for the second half of this year."
