Korea's First Combined Cycle Power Plant Equipped with LNG Storage Facility
Commercial Operation Begins One Year After Test Run, Completion Ceremony in December
HDC Group's private investment project, Tongyeong Eco Power, announced on the 30th that it has commenced commercial operation of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) combined power plant.
HDC Group announced on the 30th that Tongyeong Eco Power, a private investment project carried out together with Hanwha Energy, began commercial operation of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) combined power plant on the 29th.
Tongyeong Eco Power is a large-scale project worth 1.3 trillion won, undertaken by HDC Group in collaboration with Hanwha Energy to stabilize domestic power supply and demand and revitalize the local economy. Tongyeong Eco Power will hold a completion ceremony this December.
Tongyeong Eco Power began trial operations in November last year and started commercial operations within a year. It is the first combined cycle power plant in Korea equipped with LNG storage facilities, consisting of two gas turbines and one steam turbine. Tongyeong Eco Power has a rated capacity of 1,012 megawatts (MW) and can provide stable power supply through two 154-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines.
Tongyeong Eco Power has its own LNG storage facilities. It shares LNG tanks with the manufacturing facilities of Korea Gas Corporation's Tongyeong base, enabling efficient use. The plant has introduced turbines capable of hydrogen blending, making it an eco-friendly combined power plant with long-term carbon reduction potential.
Lee Heung-bok, CEO of Tongyeong Eco Power, said, "With the commencement of commercial operation, we will provide stable power supply to prepare for the winter power peak and contribute to national energy security. We will expand our business from power generation to an eco-friendly energy business platform."
