Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) plans to conduct a public auction of a total of 17 vehicles seized due to local tax delinquency from November 7 to 15.

According to Paju City on the 30th, the vehicles for this auction include 8 vehicles secured during the collection process targeting habitual and high-amount tax delinquents, and 5 vehicles acquired during the settlement of "daepocha" (illegal vehicles registered under a different name than the actual driver) delinquencies.

Vehicles should have ownership transferred through normal used car transactions and liquidation procedures (public auction), but through abnormal transactions, third parties may occupy and use them without permission, turning them into daepocha. Causes of abnormal transactions vary, including corporate business closures with unknown whereabouts, owner death, creditor-debtor relationships between individuals, theft or loss, and failure to transfer ownership after normal transactions.

Daepocha are often exploited as a means of illegal activity to evade various legal responsibilities such as fines and taxes by taking advantage of the difficulty in identifying the actual possessor. Paju City's vehicle public auction is expected to contribute not only to collecting delinquent local taxes and fines but also to preventing such crimes through the legal transfer of ownership of illegal vehicles.

The auction can be participated in through the AutoMart website, where detailed information such as vehicle condition, auction method, expected sale price, and vehicle storage location can be confirmed.

A Paju City official stated, "As of the end of September, local tax delinquencies in Paju City amount to 55.6 billion KRW, with vehicle tax delinquencies accounting for 9.4 billion KRW, or 17%. We will collect delinquent taxes through crackdowns on delinquent vehicles."
