Kia announced on the 30th that it held a delivery event for ultra-lightweight portable ramps to improve accessibility for transportation-vulnerable individuals. This is part of the Welcome Wheel campaign, which supplies ramps to small stores that are difficult to access due to store thresholds. It was planned to alleviate the everyday inconveniences experienced by transportation-vulnerable people such as wheelchair users and guardians with strollers.
Now in its second year following last year, the campaign started with the installation of the first store in Dongdaemun-gu and has supplied 138 ramps so far to Dongdaemun-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, Dongjak-gu in Seoul, and various welfare centers for the disabled. By the end of this year, an additional 112 ramps will be added, with 28 each in Gangseo-gu, Nowon-gu, Seodaemun-gu, and Jongno-gu in Seoul. The total will reach 250 by year-end.
Visitors who need portable ramps can easily use them by contacting the phone number listed on the signboard or expressing their intention to use it through the help bell. Starting this month, each welfare center is providing information about stores with installed ramps on online and offline maps.
This campaign, supported by Kia, also received practical assistance through the participation of individual donors, the Green Light Association, the Seoul Disabled Welfare Center Association, and various welfare centers in Seoul, which directly delivered portable ramps and signboards and demonstrated how to use them. A Kia official said, "We hope this will not only be about installing ramps but also contribute to improving social awareness overall."
