Lebanese Authorities "Death Toll Exceeds 2,000"
Israel has launched large-scale attacks on the Gaza Strip and eastern Lebanon, causing a sharp increase in casualties and displaced persons, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
According to provisional figures from the Lebanese Ministry of Health cited by the US CNN on the 28th (local time), more than 60 people were killed and 58 injured in the eastern Lebanese regions of Baalbek-Hermel and Bekaa due to Israeli airstrikes that night. Bachir Khodr, governor of Baalbek-Hermel, stated, "Since the (Israeli) invasion began, this was the fiercest day of attacks on Baalbek." The Lebanese Ministry of Health also reported that at least 7 people were killed and 17 injured in Tyre, another major city, due to bombings. Videos released by local media show destroyed homes and thick smoke rising between buildings.
The Israeli military is invading Lebanon and conducting intense bombings under the pretext of eradicating Hezbollah. According to Lebanese authorities, this has resulted in over one million displaced persons and more than 2,000 deaths.
Casualties are also occurring in the Gaza Strip. According to the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health, the Israeli military bombed northern Beit Lahia, causing a five-story building to collapse, killing at least 60 people and injuring dozens. Since last week, the Israeli military has concentrated shelling on Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun, with over 1,000 deaths reported just this month.
Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for the Gaza Civil Defense, said that the Israeli military is blocking access to medical personnel and civil defense teams, preventing affected residents from receiving medical aid. He appealed, "We urge international organizations and agencies to play a humanitarian role to help the citizens of northern Gaza who are suffering from mass killings and direct bombings."
In particular, the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health stated that the Israeli military has detained or expelled most of the medical staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital, leaving the hospital paralyzed in terms of medical services. Currently, only one pediatrician remains at the hospital. The Gaza Strip Ministry of Health has requested the international community to urgently dispatch surgical teams, saying, "Anyone with surgical skills is asked to join this hospital."
Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that the Houthi rebels from Yemen carried out a drone attack targeting the southern city of Ashkelon on the same day. According to the Israeli military's statement, the drone was confirmed to have been launched from Yemen. The Houthi rebels claimed in a statement, "The Yemeni army's unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) unit conducted a specific military operation targeting the Israeli industrial zone in Ashkelon," and asserted, "We successfully achieved the objective using multiple drones."
