Seongdong-gu Creates Comfortable Childcare Environment by Replacing Daycare Indoor Materials with Eco-friendly Domestic Wood

Selected for Korea Forest Service's 'Wooden Facility Project for Children's Use,' 'Hanippiaje Daycare Center' improves indoor environment using domestic wood... Provides children with a nature-friendly and comfortable childcare environment, aiding immunity enhancement and concentration improvement

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) announced that it has been selected for the “Wooden Facility Project for Children’s Use” organized by the Korea Forest Service, and has transformed the indoor environment of a daycare center using eco-friendly domestic wood to create a pleasant childcare environment.

To achieve the 2030 national greenhouse gas reduction target, the Korea Forest Service recruited daycare centers wishing to participate in a project to improve the environment by using eco-friendly domestic wood in children’s facilities from January 19 to February 16. Among 20 nationwide locations, Seongdong-gu’s “Hanippiaje Daycare Center (272 Dokseodang-ro)” was selected.

A total project cost of 100 million KRW (50 million KRW national funds, 20 million KRW district funds, 30 million KRW self-funding) was invested in the selected “Hanippiaje Daycare Center,” remodeling five childcare rooms, two playrooms, corridors, entrances, and a total of 393㎡ with domestic cypress wood.

The construction was carried out during the summer vacation period to avoid inconvenience to the daycare center users.

Parents who saw the newly renovated daycare center said, “The scent of wood is so strong, it feels like being in a forest,” and “Changing the indoor environment helps improve children’s respiratory diseases and creates a space where they can feel emotionally stable, which makes us very happy.”

Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “We expect this wooden facility project for daycare centers to contribute to creating an eco-friendly and pleasant childcare environment,” and added, “We will continue to provide ongoing interest and support so that children can grow up in a healthier and happier environment.”
