"Gwangju, Exploring Measures for Growth as a Biodiversity City"

Choi Ji-hyun, Gwangju City Council Member, Hosts 'Discussion Forum' on Promotion Strategies and Policies

"Gwangju, Exploring Measures for Growth as a Biodiversity City" Councilor Choi Ji-hyun of Gwangju Metropolitan Council held a forum on the 28th in the Budget and Accounts Special Committee room of the City Council under the theme "How to Create a Biodiversity City, Gwangju."

Choi Ji-hyun, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party·Gwangsan 1), announced on the 29th that she held a forum on the 28th at the City Council Budget and Accounts Special Committee Room under the theme "How to Make Gwangju a Biodiversity City."


The forum was organized to review Gwangju's biodiversity strategy and explore effective implementation systems by examining domestic cases.


The forum was chaired by Councilor Choi, with Professor Oh Chung-hyun from Dongguk University's Department of Bioenvironmental Science presenting on "The Importance of Local Biodiversity Strategies and Domestic Cases," and Kim Il-kwon, a research fellow at the Gwangju Institute, presenting on "Gwangju City's Biodiversity Strategy."


In the subsequent discussion, Park Kyung-hee, Chairperson of the Ecology Conservation Committee of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Green Alliance, Choi Gyu-sik, Vice Principal of Maji Elementary School, Choi Nak-seon, Chairperson of the Bitgoeul Stream Network Steering Committee, and Kim Oh-sook, Director of Gwangju City's Environmental Conservation Division, participated to discuss the roles of the private and public sectors in biodiversity conservation.


Councilor Choi said, "Through this forum, we opened a platform to seek concrete measures for Gwangju to grow as a biodiversity city," adding, "We reaffirm that building a sustainable ecosystem and environmental conservation are our responsibilities, and the City Council will take the lead in strengthening related policies going forward."


She continued, "Close cooperation between the government and private sectors and citizens' interest are necessary to preserve Gwangju's ecological environment," emphasizing, "Let's create a healthy ecosystem with everyone's participation."

Meanwhile, Gwangju City is the first in the Honam region to establish a local biodiversity strategy.
