"Foreign Workers Should Also Receive Financial Education from the FSC"

Promotional Materials Installed at 88 Foreigner-Focused Stores
Scan QR Code for Free Guidebook and Videos

The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has launched a financial education promotion campaign targeting foreigners residing in Korea. Promotional materials have been installed at bank branches frequently visited by foreigners, and financial education content is provided in up to eight languages.

According to the FSS on the 29th, 88 specialized bank branches nationwide have installed promotional materials for 'financial education content for foreigners.' The FSS produced promotional materials such as standing signs, posters, and desk banners based on the branches' requests and distributed them earlier this month.

The promotional materials include an introduction to the FSS's financial education content for foreigners and a QR code linking to the download page for free guidebooks and videos. The guidance text is written in eight languages: Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, English (United States), Russian, Filipino, Indonesian, and Cambodian. The QR code provides the 'Financial Life Guidebook for Foreigners' in eight languages, and the 'Financial Life Video for Foreigners' is available in four languages: Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and English.

The guidebook is composed of six chapters containing essential financial and daily life information for foreigners living in Korea. It covers banks, savings products, cards, insurance, currency exchange and overseas remittance, and prevention of financial fraud. The videos are presented in a consultation format between foreigners and experts, explaining topics such as insurance exclusively for foreigners, currency exchange, and remittance. Both the guidebook and videos can also be downloaded from the FSS financial education platform, 'e-Financial Education Center.'

Additionally, the FSS conducts financial education for foreigners residing in Korea, including multicultural families, through on-site visits and real-time remote education. Up to the first half of this year, 35 financial education sessions have been held, reaching a total of 1,027 participants. Last year, 63 sessions were conducted, educating 1,871 people.

An FSS official stated, "Financial education is important for foreign financial consumers to adapt to the domestic financial environment, but it is difficult to find time during working hours or to search for financial education content directly due to limited Korean proficiency. Therefore, we aim to promote financial education by installing promotional materials introducing financial education content at bank branches specialized for foreigners, where many foreigners gather."
