UK Single Chart No. 4... Securing Top 10 on Both Global Major Charts
Group BLACKPINK's Ros? (27, real name Park Chaeyoung) achieved the highest ranking for a K-pop female artist on the US Billboard main singles chart 'Hot 100' with her collaboration 'Apartment (APT.)' featuring pop star Bruno Mars (39).
On the 28th (local time), Billboard officially announced via social media that Ros?'s new song 'Apartment,' released on the 18th, debuted at number 8 on the 'Hot 100' chart dated November 2.
So far, the K-pop artists who have entered the 'Hot 100' top 10 include the group BTS and its members Jimin and Jungkook, as well as singer PSY.
Ros? became the first K-pop female artist to enter the 'Hot 100' top 10 as a soloist or group member. The highest position achieved by a K-pop female artist on the 'Hot 100' was 13th place with BLACKPINK's 2020 collaboration with Selena Gomez, 'Ice Cream.' When limited to solo female artists, Ros?'s 'On The Ground' released in 2021 and BLACKPINK member Lisa's 'ROCKSTAR' released this year both peaked at number 70.
With the success of 'Apartment,' Ros? has surpassed her previous 'Hot 100' record.
Inspired by the 'Apartment game,' 'Apartment' is performing well on various global charts, including Billboard. On the latest UK Official Singles Top 100 chart (October 25?31), considered one of the two major pop charts alongside Billboard, it ranked 4th. This is also a first for a K-pop female artist. Thus, 'Apartment' set a new record by entering the top 10 on the world's two major charts.
Additionally, Ros? became the first Korean female solo artist to top the US Spotify chart and the Global Spotify Daily Top Songs chart with 'Apartment.' On Apple Music's Daily Top Songs Global chart, she was the first K-pop artist to reach number one. The music video reached 100 million views on YouTube within five days of its release.
Upon hearing the news of ranking 8th on Billboard’s ‘Hot 100,’ Ros? expressed on her Instagram story, “What on earth is happening? This is amazing,” and thanked “BLINK (BLACKPINK’s fandom) and everyone.” She added, “My dream has come true,” sharing her feelings.
