Co-hosted by Incheon City and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, this forum has been held since 2022 to enhance urban disaster preparedness capabilities and explore global cooperation measures necessary for disaster risk reduction. This year’s event was attended by about 350 people, including representatives from cities in 20 countries, officials from disaster-related public institutions, experts, and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
The forum consisted of six sessions: ▲Utilization of disaster risk reduction technologies and strengthening resilience governance in Northeast and Southeast Asian countries ▲Education and training for urban resilience ▲Expansion of institutional support for urban resilience ▲Activation of disaster risk reduction policy research ▲Sharing diverse experiences of cities participating in the 'UNDRR MCR2030 Campaign,' among others.
Vice Mayor Hwang was the first presenter among five cities from the Asia-Pacific region in a special session, delivering a presentation titled "A Future Made Together, Yongin Special City, Korea’s Representative Safe City." In his presentation, Vice Mayor Hwang introduced Yongin City’s policies, including ▲Prevention-centered disaster management ▲Realistic disaster response drills ▲Establishment of an integrated control system ▲Nation’s first collaborative model among agency heads ▲Safety culture activities to raise citizens’ safety awareness.
Earlier, in May, Yongin City officially joined the 'Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030)' campaign led by UNDRR and is actively pursuing international safe city certification.
