Trump Rally Controversy Over Offensive Remarks: "Disgustingly Embarrassing"
U.S. President Joe Biden cast his early vote on the 28th (local time), about a week before the presidential election on the 5th of next month. He criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk's controversy over money-driven elections as "completely inappropriate."
On that day, President Biden visited an early voting site in New Castle, Delaware, where his residence is located, to cast his vote.
Upon arriving at the polling station, he waited in line for about 40 minutes, engaging in conversations with voters. After voting, he told reporters, "I think we will win." Having withdrawn from the Democratic presidential race at the end of July, President Biden is believed to have voted for the new candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.
He criticized the previous day's controversy over offensive remarks at former President Donald Trump's campaign rally in New York as "disgustingly shameful." At the rally held at Madison Square Garden in New York, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who appeared as a guest speaker, referred to Puerto Rico as a "trash island."
President Biden then targeted former President Trump, saying, "It's something no president should say, but we are used to such things," adding, "Most presidential scholars I have met say that character is the most important quality for a president. Trump causes controversy every time he opens his mouth."
Furthermore, he criticized CEO Musk's payment of prize money to voters in battleground states who support former President Trump as "completely inappropriate."
CEO Musk declared that he would select one voter each day from battleground states who signed petitions supporting freedom of expression and gun ownership rights and award them $1 million (approximately 1.385 billion KRW). This is interpreted as a strategy to encourage conservative voter registration and turnout. In response, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office in Pennsylvania, the largest battleground state, filed a lawsuit at the Philadelphia District Court on the same day to halt Musk's prize payments. This followed a warning from the U.S. Department of Justice that Musk's prize payments might violate federal law.
Meanwhile, President Biden, who has decided not to seek re-election, currently holds a support rate in the high 30% range. It is reported that Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, is even reluctant to campaign in support of President Biden.
