Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun: "Will contribute to the development of Hwaseong West Coast area"

On the 2nd of next month, the opening of the Seohae Line subway section between Hongseong and Seohwaseong has created an excited atmosphere in the western area of Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province. This is due to expectations that the expansion of the railway network, which has been relatively weak compared to the eastern area, will also alleviate regional imbalance.

Hwaseong City Western Area Excited About Seohae Line Subway Opening

The Seohae Line, opening this time, is an approximately 90 km route connecting Hongseong-gun, Chungnam, and Hwaseong City. It is expected to significantly reduce access time between the metropolitan area and Chungcheong region and help relieve habitual congestion by dispersing traffic volume on the Seohaean Expressway. The Hwaseong City section of the opened line includes three stations: ▲Hyangnam Station ▲Hwaseong City Hall Station ▲Seohwaseong Station.

The subway operates the first train from Hongseong Station at 6:50 AM and the last train from Seohwaseong Station at 7:29 PM. There will be a total of 8 runs, 4 in the upward direction and 4 in the downward direction.

The base fare is 4,800 KRW, with an additional 96.36 KRW charged per kilometer beyond 50 km. The fare between Seohwaseong and Hongseong is set at 8,500 KRW. Discounts are provided as follows: 50% for children, 30% for seniors, 30-50% for persons with disabilities, and 50% for veterans.

Reservations can be made through the Korail website and the 'Korail Talk' application, and tickets can also be issued at each station.

Once the currently unconnected section of the Sinansan Line between Wonsi and Songsan Depot is linked, the Seohae axis connecting Goyang, Gimpo, Ansan, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Asan, and Hongseong from north to south will be completed. However, the Wonsi-Songsan Depot section is scheduled to be connected after March 2026.

The city plans to operate a free shuttle bus on the unopened section from Seohwaseong Station to Choi Station to improve transportation convenience for railway users. The city has also inspected and supplemented bus routes at each station to facilitate access and movement by bus through the establishment and adjustment of bus routes.

Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "The Seohae Line will solve the transportation demand of the Seohaean region, which is growing into a new industrial complex in Korea, and connect Gyeonggi and Chungnam into a single living area, contributing to regional economic development." He added, "The city will devote great effort to building a railway transportation network befitting Hwaseong, a metropolitan city with a population of one million."
